Our mission is twofold:Ìý

  • To prepare social work professionals with the knowledge, values, and skills needed to initiate and sustain change and provide visionary leadership within a framework that promotes individual dignity, respects diversity, and seeks distributive justice in the Jesuit tradition.
  • To cultivate an atmosphere of intellectual discipline that facilitates faculty and student scholarship and research that contributes to the knowledge base of the profession and improves society’s understanding of the national and global systems in which people, organizations, and communities thrive.

Our students engage in direct social work practice in public schools, medical centers, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and a wide range of settings in the human services sector. The Field Education team works with each student to ensure that they find an agency that aligns with their career goals.ÌýSample agency sites include:

Black Leadership Initiaitve

The BLI supports, develops, and prepares practitioners to effectively engage Black individuals, families, and communities emphasizing collective action and cultural context. BLI students take courses to develop essential tools for critically evaluating, intervening, and advocating for optimal health and well-being outcomes, and complete field placements in culturally responsive settings.

Latinx Leadership Initiative

The LLI develops social work leaders who are equipped to work with the Latinx community to create sustainable solutions to problems such as access to equitable education, social services, and healthcare. Students develop a nuanced understanding of these issues through coursework, research, and field placements serving Latinx populations. Core courses are taught in Spanish.
